Susana Tomaz works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, strategy, and future-focused capability building across education, public sector, and organisational contexts. With over 20 years' experience across three education systems, she brings deep expertise in leadership, governance, innovation, and system-level change, with a strong focus on the responsible, ethical, and culturally responsive use of AI that enhances productivity while safeguarding human judgement, cognition, and agency in an AI-enabled world.
Susana is a Fellow of the International Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) under the auspices of UNESCO, and contributes to national and global initiatives including the AI Forum NZ AI Blueprint for Education, EdTechNZ’s stewardship group, and UNESCO’s Open Education for a Better World programme. She also mentors leaders internationally through the Asia–Europe Foundation, supporting AI adoption that is human-centred, culturally responsive, and strategically grounded.
Susana holds a Master’s in Technological Futures (AI in Education) alongside her Master’s from University College London (UCL) enabling her to bridge research, policy, leadership, and frontline practice through a systems and governance lens.
Susana is currently leading the development and national rollout of Day of AI Aotearoa | New Zealand, supporting schools to build ethical, critical AI literacy that empowers teachers, students, and communities to engage confidently with AI while developing the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed for an AI-enabled future workforce.
Susana advises schools, government, and industry on AI strategy, governance, and organisational readiness. A sought-after speaker on AI, future-focused leadership, and responsible AI adoption, she helps leaders navigate complexity with clarity, ensuring AI enhances human judgement, capability, and long-term impact.
